Golden Cross: Oxford

Our work on this project required the modernisation of a Grade II listed building in the heart of Oxford so that it could reopen as a three-storey venue incorporating a members’ bar on the top floor, a restaurant on the first floor and a champagne bar on the ground floor.

The original oak panelling and floors were retained wherever possible and specialists restored the original wall tapestries.

We sought to bring out the best of the old and new and installed a new curved wooden staircase with a wrought iron handrail, as well as a new glass-topped bar.

To the rear of the building we designed a timber barrel-vaulted conservatory, which was set in a landscaped garden and floodlit at night.
